- Be sure that you are not falling behind with either out-of-class reading assignments or written homework assignments as this novel is not something you can simply jump into the middle of.

- This novel deals heavily with both religions and cultures that may or may not be familiar to you. Be sure that you are making your best effort to stay politically correct, and more importantly, as objective as possible as you approach this story.
